Hey,

Thanks for the tutorial - I found the hardest part getting the rain looking like you did. I ended up by adjusting the levels of the final jpg image to make it all look a little more inky.

I recommend using an image that has a lighter background than your head otherwise it just won't look as good. Oh, and the font is called Comic (who would have thought!)

Thanks for the tutorial!

This is awesome. Thanks for the easy to follow guide.

One question: The rain is tough. On mine and the ones posted here it looks like we are getting a lot more rain droplets than in the example. I've tried changing the resolution on the image from my original 2048x3072 down to 1700x1200, 900x600, etc. Nothing I do seems to reduce the amount of rain produced. However, if I use your sample image it comes out looking just fine. I think it might be due to the behavior of the "Vivid Light" setting. My images tend not to be stark black/white contrasts. Could this be why?

Thanks for any advice, I would love to nail down the effect.

Mine looked well until i merged the layers and it threw in a bunch of extra rain. Not sure what happened there. Here's the finished project, extra rain and all...

IPB Image

edit: updated photo (eyes are now both blue, whites of eyes are more visible, cleaned up edges around hairline and jawline, fixed typo in caption)... still working on tweaking my rain.

I did mine a bit different. Here's my tip: Instead of using the cutout filter try the dark strokes filter and then play with the levels afterwards. When you add the rain it will change the lighting, so save your work often.

To do the eye trick: This is pretty easy. From the very beginning, magic laso anything you want to retain its color and then do a New Layer Via Copy and don't desaturate that layer. Play with the curves of the new layer to make the colors really "pop."

hmm nice tutorial but I somehow dont get the same look... so I guess it also depends much on the picture you use. but my main problem also is the rain... when skewing it, it doesnt stay clean, it ripples.

QUOTE(T.J. @ Jun 20 2006, 11:43 AM)

Still haven't figured out where the lasso tool is to make the bubble. Very new to Photoshop.

The elliptical tool is under the top left button of the toolbar. The polgonal selection tool is 2nd from the top left of the tool bar.

Here's my own:

I got a question of my own. How do I do the gradient part of this tutorial to get a black background with grey rain on top of it? I've found the little circle in the square button but when I select gradient from the tool bar I can't get the right effect.
