Drawing Bob the Builder

Description: This tutorial will show you how to draw the cartoon character Bob the Builder.


Drawing Bob the Builder



Start by creating a circle using elliptical shape tool.





Press Ctrl+T. Right click the layer and select warp.





Adjust nodes as shown.





Fill the selection with skin color.





Create another ellipse over first ellipse.





Enable subtract form selection from the top bar.





Create another ellipse to subtract this shape from the black ellipse. This shape will serve as the helmet for Bob.





Fill it with yellow color.





Using pen tool create flap of the helmet.





Create eyes using elliptical shape tool.





Using pen tool draw Bob's outfit.





Now create arm of Bob using pen tool.





Create a new file 50X50 pixels and create a pattern as shown in the image below.





From edit menu select define pattern.





Select the arm layer. Double click the layer and apply pattern overlay. Select the pattern we defined in the previous step.





Use stroke settings as shown.







Apply stroke to other layers too.





Similarly create other arm.





Draw a rectangular shape using pen tool for belt.







Hang a couple of tool with his belt. Either use pen tool to draw these tools or transform and warp some of the basic shapes.







Draw hand shapes and fill with skin color.





Add details to helmet.





Create an ear shape using pen tool. Apply stroke.





From layer menu select layer style >>create layer.





Select ear and it's stroke layer and merge together.





Using eraser tool erase the portion shown in the image.







Add features like nose, lips etc. to the face.





Give bob's helmet a finishing touch by adding a rectangular extruded shape in front.





Create a big circle in the background and fill it with red color.





Apply following layer style as shown.
