First, I'll show how to use pen tool, to make a great selection...
And at the next step how to make curves using pen tool as a paths...

How to make a curve:

Make the 3rd point, just on the line. After, drag that point with CTRL key to the direction that you want...

Now the selection work!!!

Zoom your image and start the selection point by point, using the pen tool as a paths - Do not forget to make the curves as explained before...

avatar zustoYou can make a selection of the object, find th Quick mask button on the toolbar (at the bottom), double click on it, select "masked area", confirm.
Everything except selected object will be covered with a red-mask color.
Then you can use the Gausian blur as described. Then click again to the Quick Mask button and press Delete. You will get the same result.

This could be made only if you are sure, you will not needed the cutted parts.

no avatarI like the quickmask method too.But this looks good. Press the ALT key when dragging with the pen tool. It moves each curve seperately.
